Commander Jason Sakash
Executive Officer Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 134
A native of Dade City, Florida, Commander Sakash enlisted in the Navy October of 1993. He then attended AME A-School in Millington, TN followed by Naval Aircrewman and Naval Rescue Swimmer School in Pensacola, FL. Upon graduation he was selected to fly in the UH-46 Sea Knight and checked into the “Gunbearers” of HC-11 at Naval Air Station Coronado. He completed three successful deployments within the 5th and 7th Fleet AORs.
Following his first sea tour he transitioned to the UH-3 Sea King and to his first shore station at NAS Key West Station SAR. He completed numerous Rescue Missions during this tour and after three years of good living, he transferred to the “Fleet Angels” of HC-2 in Norfolk, VA. He was qualified as an FRS instructor while also completing a deployment to Manama, Bahrain with the “Desert Ducks” of HC-2 in flying missions in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, SOUTHERN WATCH and IRAQI FREEDOM.
During this time, he completed his Professional Aeronautics degree through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He applied, was accepted and completed OCS in the Fall of 2006 earning his Commission at NAS Pensacola. In October of 2008 he finished the SNFO training pipeline and was selected to fly in EA-6b Prowler out of Whidbey Island, Washington.
After completing his Initial Fleet training with the “Vikings” of VAQ-129, he joined his first operational squadron, the “Rooks” of VAQ-137. Deployed with CAG One onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), CDR Sakash completed her final two deployments in the 7th fleet AOR, in support of operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM, flying numerous Combat missions into both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Upon completion of a successful fleet tour, he returned to the “Vikings” to become a Fleet Replacement Instructor and later transition to the EA-18G Growler. While at VAQ-129 he received the Dillon Award for Leadership and later transferred to CAG Two as the Staff Electronic Warfare Officer onboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) where he completed a follow-on 7th Fleet deployment.
Following his tour as CAG EWO, CDR Sakash was selected for Department Head and proceeded to the “Gray Wolves” of VAQ-142, and deployed again to 7th Fleet aboard the USS THEODORE ROSSEVELT (CVN 71). CDR Sakash successfully completed his Department Head tour and was subsequently selected to return to the “Vikings” of VAQ-129 to become the Fleet Replacement Squadron Training Officer and has since.
