Commander Gordon “G-Rob” Robertson

A native of Mount Holly, New Jersey, Commander Robertson graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 2007, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics. CDR Robertson was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program and reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in January 2008. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in February 2010. In April 2010, CDR Robertson reported to VFA-122 “Flying Eagles” for initial fleet training as an FA-18 Super Hornet Pilot.  

CDR Robertson began his operational flying in February 2011 with the “Jolly Rogers” of VFA-103.  While a “Jolly Roger”, he made two deployments with CVW-7 aboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  

CDR Robertson then reported to the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) in July 2014 to attend the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI) course with follow-on orders to instruct at TOPGUN.  During his instructor tour he was the Threat Air-to-Air Missiles subject matter expert (SME) and Navy Adversary Officer.

CDR Robertson returned to the fleet in August 2017 as a Training Officer in VFA-22, the “Fighting Redcocks”.  While with the Redcocks, he completed one deployment with CVW-17 aboard USS THEODOORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

Following his Training Officer tour, CDR Robertson reported in March 2019 to the “Blue Diamonds” of VFA-146 as a Department head assuming roles of Quality Assurance Officer, Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer.  He completed two Western Pacific (WESTPAC) deployments with CVW-11 aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71).  During his time with the “Blue Diamonds” CDR Robertson was awarded the 2019 CSFWP O-4 Peer Leadership Award. 

CDR Robertson then reported to Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC) in November 2021 to break ground and develop the NAWDC Integration department (DAUNTLESS) in direct support of the Commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMPACFLT) and U.S. Navy initiatives concerning Great Power Competition (GPC).  

CDR Robertson will report to the “Mighty Shrikes” VFA-94 as the Executive Officer in July 2024.

CDR Robertson has accumulated over 2500 flight hours in five aircraft and 586 carrier arrested landings, including 41 combat missions. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal- Strike/Flight (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit, campaign, and service medals/ribbons.
