Commander Emily M. Mooren

Commander Mooren joined VUQ-10 as Executive Officer in October 2022 following completion of her assignment at United States European Command.
A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, CDR Mooren enlisted in the Navy in May 2000. Accepted into the Seaman-to-Admiral 21 program, she was commissioned in 2005 via Naval Recruit Officer Training Center (ROTC) at the University of Washington and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in May 2008. She holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Network Operations and Technology from Naval Post Graduate School and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Washington.
CDR Mooren’s operational assignments include tours with VAW-117 as a Junior Officer and a Department Head, and Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8). She has deployed and served on board the USS Nimitz (CVN 68), USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) and the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in support of OPERATIONs Enduring Freedom, Inherent Resolve.
Ashore, CDR Mooren served as an Instructor Naval Flight Officer at VAW-120 Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS), In January of 2020, she reported to United States European Command, J5/8 Directorate (Plans, Policy, Strategy and Capabilities) in Stuttgart, Germany. She served as the J5 Southeast Europe Desk Officer overseeing U.S. and NATO Security Cooperation goals.
CDR Mooren has logged more than 2,600 hours in the E-2 Hawkeye and flown more than 130 combat missions with U.S. Navy. Her decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, strike/flight Air Medals, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medals, and Navy Achievement Medals as well as other individual, campaign, and unit awards.
