Commander Daniel C. Wilt

Commander Wilt is a native of Gainesville, Florida. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He attended the University of Florida and earned a Master’s in Business Administration in 2016. He also attended the Naval War College and earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2021. After commissioning, CDR Wilt reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in October of 2008. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in April of 2010.

CDR Wilt began his operational flying in September 2010 with the “Fighter Tigers” of VP-8. While a “Tiger”, he made deployments to FIFTH and FOURTH Fleet, participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN, and Operation MARTILLO. Following his initial tour, CDR Wilt reported to the Command Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing ELEVEN in 2013. He graduated from the Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School Weapons and Tactics course and was assigned to the Weapons and Tactics Unit. At the WTU, CDR Wilt was the lead evaluator for the last P-3C Operational Readiness Evaluation for the east coast before transitioning to the P-8A Poseidon in 2015. CDR Wilt supported multiple squadron detachments and deployments for SEVENTH and THIRD Fleet during his time at the WTU. In 2015, CDR Wilt redesignated to the Reserves as Full Time Support and was assigned to stand up the East Coast P-3 Reserve Weapons and Tactics Unit, providing instruction, evaluation, and training to the VP reserve units at NAS Jacksonville.

CDR Wilt returned to the fleet as a Department Head in VP-62, the “Broadarrows”. While with the Broadarrows, he completed two SEVENTH Fleet mobilizations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as Administrative Officer, Operations Officer, and Maintenance Officer.

Following his department head tour, CDR Wilt served as the VP Program Manager at Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve. While on Staff, he directly supported the Reserve transition to the P-8A and managed two Squadrons and a Squadron Augment Unit. He selected for squadron command and report to VP-69 as Executive Officer in July 2023.

CDR Wilt has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours between the P-3C and P-8A aircraft, including 90 combat missions. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various service awards and ribbons.
