Commander William Bogdanowicz

Commander Bogdanowicz graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2008 where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and in Chinese Studies.  He was commissioned the same year through the NROTC program and designated a Naval Flight Officer in May 2010.

In September of 2011, following initial training in the EA-18G Growler, CDR Bogdanowicz reported to the “Shadowhawks” of VAQ-141.  He deployed in support of Operation NEW DAWN and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) and later conducted Western Pacific Operations on USS George Washington (CVN 73) post a squadron homeport change to Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Atsugi, Japan.  As a “Shadowhawk”, he graduated from the Growler Tactics Instructor Course (GTI) at the Airborne Electronic Attack Weapons School (HAVOC).

In March 2015, CDR Bogdanowicz reported to the Electronic Attack Weapons School (EAWS) in Whidbey Island, WA for instructor duty where he served as the Electronic Attack Subject Matter Expert and Electronic Warfare Advanced Readiness Program (EWARP) coordinator.  

CDR Bogdanowicz was subsequently selected as an Olmsted Scholar in March 2017.   He reported to the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in July of that same year, where he studied Spanish and earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Linguistics.  Following his studies, CDR Bogdanowicz moved to Santiago, Chile where he attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and earned a Master of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations.

In December 2020, CDR Bogdanowicz joined his next squadron, the “Rooks” of VAQ-137 as a Department Head, deploying aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in support of NATO and United States European Command tasking.  While with the “Rooks” CDR Bogdanowicz served as Safety, Maintenance, and Operations Officer.

Following his Department Head tour, CDR Bogdanowicz again checked in to the Electronic Attack Weapons School where he was assigned as the Director of Training.

In December 2023, CDR Bogdanowicz transferred to serve as the Executive Officer to the “Gauntlets” of VAQ-136.

Commander Bogdanowicz has accumulated over 1,800 flight hours in the EA-18G.  His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various personal, unit, and service awards.  Off duty he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters.
