Commander Maximo Angeles

Commander Maximo Angeles is a native of Portland, Oregon.  He enlisted in 1996 and served on board the Fast Attack Submarine USS Salt Lake City (SSN-716) qualifying as an Enlisted Submarine Warfare Specialist and Navy Scuba Diver.  While at Commander, Submarine Development Squadron FIVE (COMSUBDEVRON 5) he earned the Enlisted Deep Submergence Insignia.  In 2004, CDR Angeles was selected for the Seaman to Admiral-21 commissioning program and graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics.  After his commissioning, CDR Angeles reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training and earned his Naval Aviator Wings of Gold in October 2009.  CDR Angeles reported to the “Merlins” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3 in San Diego, CA, for initial training as a MH-60S Sea Hawk pilot.

CDR Angeles began his operational flying in June 2010 with the “Golden Falcons” of HSC-12.  He completed two deployments from San Diego aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) then assisted the Golden Falcons move to Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, Japan where he completed an additional deployment aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73).  

In 2013, CDR Angeles returned to the Pensacola area for duty as a T-6B Texan II Instructor Pilot with the “Doer Birds” of Training Squadron (VT) 2.  As a Doer Bird, CDR Angeles served as a Standardization Instructor Pilot and Chief of Naval Air Training, Contact Stage Manager.
  
In February 2017, CDR Angeles reported aboard USS Bataan (LHD-5) in Norfolk, VA.  CDR Angeles served as the Hangar Officer, Aircraft Handling Officer and Mini Boss.  While aboard USS Bataan, CDR Angeles earned his Officer of the Deck qualification.

CDR Angeles returned to the “Golden Falcons” at NAF Atsugi, Japan in August 2019 as a Department Head.  While with the Golden Falcons, he completed deployments aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76).  During his time at HSC-12 he served as Admin Officer, Detachment Officer in Charge, Safety Officer, and Operations Officer.

In January 2022, CDR Angeles served as an Action Officer for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J-5 Strategy, Plans and Policy Directorate at the Pentagon.  He was selected for Squadron Command in April 2023 and is currently serving as the Prospective Commanding Officer at Station SAR Whidbey.

Commander Angeles has accumulated over 2,800 flight hours and is authorized to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5), and various other unit, campaign and service medals.
