Commander Joshua Witt
Executive Officer, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 139

A native of Snoqualmie, Washington, Commander Witt enlisted in the Navy in February 2004. Upon completing Recruit Training Command, he attended AME A-School at NAS Pensacola, FL. He then checked in to the “Grey Knights” of VP-46 at NAS Whidbey Island, WA. He completed one deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM - PHILIPPINES.
While assigned to VP-46 in 2005, he was selected for the Seaman to Admiral-21 commissioning program. He reported to the University of Colorado NROTC unit in the summer of 2006, where he completed a degree in Economics and was commissioned in December 2008.
After commissioning, CDR Witt earned his wings of gold as a Naval Aviator in August 2011 and was selected to fly F/A-18 Super Hornets. After completing initial fleet training with the “Gladiators” of VFA- 106, he joined his first operational squadron, the “Talons” of VFA-115 based at NAF Atsugi, Japan in August 2012. While with VFA-115, he completed four deployments while aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76).
Upon completion of a successful sea tour, he reported to the “Vikings” of VAQ-129 as an Instructor Pilot in December 2015 and served as the Air-to-Air Training Phase Head. While assigned to VAQ-129, CDR Witt was selected to attend the HAVOC course at the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center at NAS Fallon, NV.
He graduated the HAVOC course in December 2017 and earned his Growler Tactics Instructor qualification. He was then was assigned to the HAVOC staff as an instructor, the Surface-to-Air Counter Tactics Subject Matter Expert, and he served as the Training Officer.
In January 2020, CDR Witt reported to the “Cougars” of VAQ-139 as a department head and deployed aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) where he conducted combat operations in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. During his tour at the “Cougars,” he served as the Tactics Officer, Operations Officer, and Maintenance Officer.
Following his operational department head tour, CDR Witt returned to the “Vikings” of VAQ-129 in October 2022 where he served as the Fleet Replacement Squadron Training Officer and Operations Officer. He was selected for operational squadron command in March 2023 and reported to the “Cougars” of VAQ-139 as Executive Officer in May 2025.
Over his career, CDR Witt has accumulated over 2,400 flight hours and 400 carrier arrested landings. His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (3), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and multiple campaign medals and service ribbons.
