Commander Scott Chuda

Commander Scott “Chu-Hi” Chuda is a native of Charlestown, New Hampshire. He graduated in 2008 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He commissioned in 2009 through OCS in Newport, RI.  He completed flight training in Enid, OK, and Kingsville, TX. He earned his “Wings of Gold” in October 2011.

CDR Chuda completed his initial EA-18G training and then reported to VAQ 132 “Scorpions,” in November 2012. There he served as a Logistics Division Officer, Line Division Officer, Personnel Officer and assistant Trainer Officer. He deployed three times to Misawa AB, Japan, in support of Far East contingency operations. He was awarded the Raytheon AEA Integration Award during this tour. In between deployments he also completed the Growlers Tactics Instructor (GTI) course in Fallon, NV.  

In January 2016, CDR Chuda reported to Naval Air Warfare Development Center (NAWDC) at NAS Fallon as a HAVOC instructor. He became the first Growler Surface to Air Counter Tactics subject matter expert. He was also the Electromagnetic Interference SME.

CDR Chuda returned to the fleet in October 2018, as the Training Officer with VAQ 134 “Garudas.” In June 2019, he deployed rapidly with the Garudas as part of the Global Reaction Force to Al Udeid AFB, Qatar. The Garudas provided continuous support of Coalition forces for OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE.

In August 2020, CDR Chuda reported to VAQ 133 “Wizards” for his department head tour, serving as Operation Officer, Maintenance Officer & Admin Officer. During this tour, he deployed on the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) and flew in support of Pacific Theater Tasking. After detaching in November 2022, CDR Chuda reported to PERS 43 as VAQ Assignments Officer for Navy Personnel Command, in Millington, TN.

CDR Chuda has accumulated over 2,100 naval flight hours. His decorations include four Navy Commendation Medals, AEA integration award, as well as various personal and squadron awards.

He lives in Anacortes with his wife Becky, two kids, and their rescue dog. They love exploring the local forest lands and hitting the slopes whenever they can. CDR Chuda frequently competes in triathlons, hoping to bring greater awareness to the fight against Alzheimer’s.
