Captain Richard Prescott

A native of Avon, Ohio, Captain Richard “T-Rex” Prescott received his commission in 2003 through the Nuclear Power Officer Candidate Program. He was selected for flight training in 2006 and received his “wings of gold” in 2008.
 
Captain Prescott’s operational assignments include tours with the “Stingers” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ONE THREE (VFA-113) as a junior officer, the “Golden Warriors” of Strike Fighter Squadron EIGHT SEVEN (VFA-87) as a department head, and the “Rampagers” of Strike Fighter Squadron EIGHT THREE (VFA-83) as executive officer and commanding officer.  His shore assignments include duty at the Naval Nuclear Power School as a teacher of physics and math; with the “Gladiators” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO SIX (VFA-106) as a fighter and carrier qualification standardization officer; and at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J-3, as assistant deputy director for operations and presidential strike advisor at the National Military Command Center.
 
Captain Prescott has completed four deployments aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). His deployments have supported Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, INHERENT RESOLVE, and FREEDOMS SENTINEL. In support of these operations, he has flown 65 combat missions over the skies of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. He has logged more than 2,300 flight hours in the F/A-18 A-F and accumulated over 450 carrier-arrested landings.
 
Captain Prescott holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Business Administration from The Citadel. He is a graduate of National Defense University’s Joint and Combined Warfighting School, and of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Program. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (3 Strike Flight), Joint Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (six awards), and various campaign and unit level awards.  He is married to Lora Prescott (née Schneider) and has one son Richard (12).
