Command Master Chief (AW/SW) VanSickle is a native of Haysville, KS, graduating from Oxford High School in May 2001. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic and departed for Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL in June 2001.
His sea tours included Electronic Attack Squadron 134 (GARUDAS), Electronic Attack Squadron 129 (VIKINGS), Electronic Attack Squadron 132 (SCORPIONS), Strike Fighter Squadron 97 (WARHAWKS), Strike Fighter Squadron 102 (DIAMONDBACKS) where he served as their Maintenance Master Chief, and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN SEVEN (HSM-77) as the Command Master Chief at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan. Master Chief’s sea tours have included multiple expeditionary deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, and multiple Carrier based deployments around the world.
His shore duty assignments include FRS Electronic Attack Squadron 129 (VIKINGS), Electronic Attack Wing Pacific, Strike Fighter Wing Pacific Detachment and Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC). Master Chief VanSickle is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy Class 241 and CMC/COB Course Class 23090.
Master Chief’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (ten awards), and multiple unit and campaign awards. Additionally, he was a three-time Sailor of the Year, a recipient of the LCDR Frank C. Wittwer Leadership award and the Master Chief Larry Nowell Leadership award.
