Commander Justin Wiley
Executive Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27

A native of Riverside, CA, Commander Wiley graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2009, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science. CDR Wiley was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program and reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, FL for flight training in March of 2010. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in June 2012. In July 2012, CDR Wiley reported to the “Gladiators of VFA-106 for initial fleet training as an FA-18E pilot.
CDR Wiley began his operational flying in May 2013 with the “Sunliners” of VFA-81. While a “Sunliner,” he made a 10-month deployment aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), participating in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and INHERENT RESOLVE. CDR Wiley was then selected to attend the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) at NAS Fallon, NV, and remained there as a staff instructor.
Upon leaving NAS Fallon, CDR Wiley returned to the fleet as the Training Officer of the VFA-195 “Dambusters.” While there, he completed two patrol cycles aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) in support of objectives in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility (AOR).
CDR Wiley then reported for his Department Head tour with the VFA-192 “Golden Dragons.” While with the Golden Dragons, he completed one deployment aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in support of objectives in the INDOPACOM AOR, serving as Safety Officer, Administrative Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer.
Following his Department Head tour, CDR Wiley reported to the “Green Bats” of the 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, NV flying the F-35A Lighting II. While attached to the Green Bats, he served as the Navy Liaison Officer, and was responsible for various F-35 projects for acquisition and tactics development. He selected for squadron command in March 2024 and is scheduled to report to VFA-27 as Executive Officer in October 2025.
CDR Wiley has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours in 8 aircraft and 580 carrier arrested landings, including 14 combat missions. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various service awards and ribbons.
