Commander Joshua I. Campbell

Commander Joshua Campbell, a native of Lakeside, California, is a proud father of two sons, Logan and Henry, and his daughter Georgia.  

CDR Campbell is currently serving as the inaugural OIC of Growler Naval Aviation Maintenance Center of Excellence in Whidbey Island, WA.  He leads a team of 7 providing rapid training courses covering proficiency and curriculum gaps that otherwise result in lost aircraft readiness and waste in resources.

Enlisted, CDR Campbell entered service where he graduated from Recruit Training Command 24 March 1998.  Enlisted, he served onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) as an undesignated Airman and later with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron ONE ONE (HC 11) as an Aviation Machinist Mate embarking onboard USS TARAWA (LHA 1). 
CDR Campbell was selected to the United States Naval Academy where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and commissioned 26 May 2006 as a Student Naval Aviator.  

As a student pilot, CDR Campbell attended Flight School in Pensacola, FL and flew the T-35C with Training Squadron SIX (VT 6).  Awaiting re-designation, following medical disqualification, CDR Campbell served at FRCSE, Detachment Mayport as the Aircraft Division Officer.  

Operational tours include organizational experience as MCO and MMCO for Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron LAMPS FOUR FOUR (HSL 44). He also served as Gunner, MMCO, and AMO for Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN FOUR (HSM 74) under CVW-3. Intermediate experience includes USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) where he led CPI, RASP, GSE, and Avionics/Armament Divisions in support of CVW-11. He also served an IM1 tour onboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) supporting CVW-9 as AMO, and MMCO. Likewise, he served as Light Industrial Facility (LIFAC) Officer-in-Charge in preparation for CVN-74’s Refueling & Complex Over Haul (RCOH). Intermediate level expertise culminated with his AIMD Officer roll onboard USS NIMITZ supporting CVW-17 and CSG-11. 

Corporate knowledge was earned as Performance Based Logistics (PBL) Military Lead, Fleet Readiness Officer, and APML under NAVAIR’s Logistics and Industrial Operations (AIR-6.6) competency assigned to the H-60 Program Office (PMA-299). Further experience was gained as Deputy Maintenance Officer, Electronic Attack Wing, where he was assigned Operational and Type Wing duties.

CDR Campbell completed his Master’s degree in Management and is Acquisition Corps certified. He is authorized to wear the Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer Warfare insignia. Additionally, his personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Navy & Marine Association Leadership Award, and the Captain Virgil J. Lemmon Award for Naval Aviation Maintenance Excellence.
