Commander Alex "Spider Monkey" J. Tidei
Executive Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 113

A native of Park Ridge, IL, Commander Tidei graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May 2010, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. CDR Tidei was designated a Naval Aviator in December 2012, and he subsequently reported to the VFA-106 “Gladiators” at NAS Oceana, VA for initial fleet training in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
CDR Tidei’s first operational tour was with the “Knighthawks” of VFA-136, where he deployed aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
CDR Tidei reported to the VFA-122 “Flying Eagles” in September 2017 as an instructor pilot. In May 2020, CDR Tidei reported to the VFA-213 “Fighting Blacklions” for a Super JO tour. CDR Tidei returned to the fleet as a Department Head in VFA-81, the “Sunliners” (Who Said?). While with VFA-81, he deployed aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in support of Operations NEPTUNE SHIELD, NEPTUNE STRIKE, and NATO Enhanced Vigilance Activities, serving as Safety, Maintenance, and Operations Officer.
Following his department head tour, CDR Tidei reported to the United States Naval War College at NS Newport, RI in July 2023 where he earned a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies. He selected for squadron command in March 2024 and reported to the VFA-113 “Stingers” as the Executive Officer in December 2025.
CDR Tidei has accumulated over 2,300 flight hours and 400 carrier arrested landings. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other service awards and ribbons.
