A native of Hastings, MN, Commander Adam Shemon graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD earning a Bachelor of Science in History.   He was commissioned in May of 2009 and reported to Pensacola, FL for Flight School.

While in Pensacola, he completed Aviation Preflight Indoctrination and transferred to Primary Training with the “Wildcats” of VT-10.  CDR Shemon was selected for the Take Charge and Move Out (TACAMO) community and reported to the “Roughnecks” of VQ-7 in October 2010.  

Upon graduation from VQ-7 in April 2011, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) and reported to the “Ironmen” of VQ-3.  While in VQ-3, CDR Shemon completed numerous deployments in support of Commander, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and Strategic Communications Wing ONE (SCW-1) tasking.  He held the following designations: Combat Systems Officer, Mission Commander, Mission Commander Evaluator, and Lead Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) NFO Instructor.  

After completing his tour at VQ-3, he was selected to report to the White House Military Office (WHMO) in July 2014 assigned to the President’s Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) serving as Deputy Director, Team Chief, Training Officer, and Watch Officer.  While at WHMO, he directly supported the 2016 Presidential Election, 2017 Presidential Inauguration, and Presidential Trips.  During this tour, CDR Shemon was selected as the 2015 WHMO Operations’ “Outstanding Member of the Year.”  Additionally, CDR Shemon furthered his education during this tour, earning a Master of Arts in Government with a concentration in Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University in 2016.

CDR Shemon reported aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in August 2017 for duty as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer or “Shooter.”  During this tour, he served as the Top Catapult Officer (TOPCAT), V-2 Division Officer, and V-3 Division Officer.  He also completed Joint Professional Military Education (Phase I) through the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL.

CDR Shemon returned to the E-6B fleet as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Department Head with the VQ-7 “Roughnecks” in July 2019, where he served as the Training Officer.  Upon completion of this tour, CDR Shemon reported to the VQ-4 “Shadows” in November 2020 where he served as Administrative Officer and Operations Officer.  After completing this tour, he reported as the Officer in Charge of VQ-4 Detachment Patuxent River, MD in January 2023.

In August 2024, CDR Shemon reported to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), serving as the Deputy Chief of the Asymmetric Threats Department within the On-Site Inspection and Building Capacity Directorate.  The department’s portfolio includes Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) implementation, bio-deterrence, countering emerging threats, and the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI).  After being selected for Aviation Command, CDR Shemon reported as Executive Officer of VQ-7 in November 2025.

His awards include the Presidential Service Badge, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various unit and service awards.
