CDR Tim Boyce was born in Baltimore, MD but moved to Flower Mound, TX at the age of 10.  Following graduation from Flower Mound High School in 2005, CDR Boyce attended the United States Naval Academy where he graduated with distinction in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  He reported to Pensacola, Florida to begin flight training in June 2009, and received his wings as a Naval Aviator in December 2010.

Following initial training in the mighty SH-60B LAMPS Mk III helicopter, CDR Boyce reported to HSL-42 in 2011.  He completed his first deployment with Detachment Ten “The Night Furies” aboard USS JAMES E. WILLIAMS (DDG 95) in the Fifth Fleet AOR and was then qualified as a Helicopter Aircraft Commander.  He then completed a conversion syllabus to the MH-60R as the squadron transitioned to HSM-72.  After training, CDR Boyce embarked for HSM-72’s first ever MH-60R detachment, “The Highlanders,” to support the Sixth Fleet AOR aboard USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as the Detachment Operations Officer.

At the conclusion of his tour at HSM-72 in 2015, CDR Boyce was accepted to the United States Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) in NAS Patuxent River, MD as a member of Class 149.  He completed the USNTPS curriculum in June 2016 and reported to HX-21 where he conducted shipboard flight envelope expansion, radar development, and data link and communications testing.  While at HX-21, he also completed a Master’s of Science in Engineering Science (Aerospace Engineering focus) from the Naval Postgraduate School.

CDR Boyce returned to the Fleet as a Department Head at HSM-49.  There, he conducted Carrier Strike Group workups aboard USS SAMPSON (DDG 102) as Detachment OIC of Det 4 “The Scoundrels” and then served as the Squadron Maintenance Officer.  Following his tour at HSM-49, CDR Boyce reported to PERS-43, where he served as the HSM Placement Officer.  Following training, CDR Boyce reported to NAF Atsugi, Japan in January 2025 to become the next Executive Officer of HSM-77.

CDR Boyce’s personal awards include HSM-72 and Carrier Air Wing SEVEN Pilot of the Year awards for 2014, the 2014 Commander, HSM Wing Atlantic Leadership Award, and Team Lead for a Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Commander’s Award in 2018.  On the home front, CDR Boyce was married to Leanne Snider in 2013, and together they have two daughters, Cassidy and Layla.
