A native of Ellicott City, Maryland, Commander Brown graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. CDR Brown reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in November 2007 and earned his wings in July 2009. Following, CDR Brown reported to the HSC-3 “Merlins” for initial fleet training as an MH-60S pilot.

CDR Brown began his operational flying in March 2010 with the “Wildcards” of HSC-23.  While a “Wildcard”, he deployed aboard USS BOXER (LHD 4) with the 11th MEU as the BOXER ARG’s first naval armed helicopter detachment.  He also embarked on the USS PELELIU (LHA 5) for workups with the 13th MEU in preparation for their 2012 WESTPAC Deployment.

CDR Brown reported back to the “Merlins” of HSC-3 in March 2013 for instructor duty.  As squadron NATOPS Officer, CDR Brown qualified in the MQ-8B Fire Scout and earned an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School. For his disassociated tour, CDR Brown reported as Flag Aide to Commander, Naval Air Forces Reserve in April 2016.

CDR Brown returned to the fleet as a Department Head in HSC-21, the “Blackjacks”.  While with the Blackjacks, he served as OIC of Detachment ONE, supporting RIMPAC 2018 aboard the USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) and WESTPAC 2019 deployment aboard USS BOXER (LHD 4) with the 11th MEU.  Upon return, he served as squadron Operations Officer.

Following his department head tour, CDR Brown served as an action officer, Joint Staff, J-7 Directorate.  While on the Joint Staff, he was a program analyst for the Joint Training Exercise and Evaluation Program (JTEEP) and served as Executive Assistant for the Vice Director, J-7.  He selected for command in March 2022 and reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School Pacific as Executive Officer in December 2023.

CDR Brown has accumulated over 2,200 flight hours. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
