He was designated as a Naval Aviator in May 2004. He earned his Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies while participating in the Halsey Alfa advanced research project at the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Operationally, he has served in numerous squadrons accruing over 3,400 hours and 645 arrested landings in the F/A-18C/E/F and F-35C. His Fleet assignments include VFA22 Redcocks, VFA-94 Mighty Shrikes, VFA-154 Black Knights, and command of VFA-97 Warhawks supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, TOMODACHI, INHERENT RESOLVE and Western Pacific Operations onboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), and USS GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78). Additionally, he augmented VFA-94 during their 2008 deployment as part of the Navy Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to RAAF Tindal, Australia and MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. Ashore, CAPT Kuitu assignment include duties as Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor and Subject Matter Expert, Military Partnership Staff Officer, Afghanistan Focus Group Staff Officer, Deputy Director of the Afghanistan Focus Group, and the Navy Service Deputy at the F-35 Joint Program Office. While ashore, he completed a six-month deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan, serving in the Command Group of Operation RESOLUTE SUPPORT and served as Battle Director at the Combined Air and Space Operations Center in Doha, Qatar. Captain Kuitu has over 3,350 flight hours and 645 arrested landings. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Individual Air Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, along with various unit and service-related awards. Additionally, he was recognized as the Naval Air Forces Pacific LCDR Michael G. Hoff Attack Aviator of the Year and received the American Legion Aviator Valor Award in 2015 and was selected as the Commander Joint Strike Fighter Wing Navy and Marine Corps Peer Leadership Award Winner in 2021.
