“Leslie” Sipes hails from Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from Averett University in 2007 with a B.S. in Sports Medicine. Winged as a P-3C Naval Flight Officer in Jacksonville, FL in May of 2010 while training at Patrol Squadron THIRTY. In August 2010, Commander Sipes joined the “Tridents” of Patrol Squadron TWO SIX in Jacksonville, FL where he deployed to the 5th Fleet and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility (AOR) supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
 
In October 2013, Commander Sipes joined the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School (MPRWS) in Jacksonville, FL. In 2014, he qualified on the P-8A and served as a staff P-8A WTI as the Fleet ASW Tactics and Weapons subject matter expert. In May of 2016, Commander Sipes joined the “Fighting Tigers” of Patrol Squadron EIGHT while stationed in Jacksonville, FL where he served as the Squadron Maritime Tactics Instructor (SMTI) and deployed twice to the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR).
 
In May of 2018, Commander Sipes joined Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN where he served as the MPRF Shore Detailer (432-i). In June 2019, Commander Sipes joined the “Pelicans” of Patrol Squadron FOUR FIVE stationed in Jacksonville, FL. During his Department Head tour he served as the Tactics, Training, and Maintenance Officer and deployed twice to the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR).
 
In his previous assignment, Commander Sipes attended the Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, RI from November 2022-2023. While there he was enrolled at the Commander Naval Command and Staff College where he earned his Master’s in Defense and Strategic Studies and JPME Phase I.
 
In June of 2024, Commander Sipes will assume duties as Executive Officer, Patrol Squadron FOUR SEVEN. Commander Sipes has accumulated more than 2,400 flight hours in the P-3C and the P-8A Poseidon aircraft. His decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
 
Commander Sipes and his wife Courtney reside in Coupeville, WA. Courtney is a Nurse Practitioner (APRN).
