A native of Cantonment, Florida, Commander Sheater graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2005, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science before reporting to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in July of 2005. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in July 2007, then immediate- ly reported to the VFA-106 “Gladiators” for initial fleet training as a FA-18F Weapons Systems Officer (WSO). CDR Sheater began his operational flying in April of 2008 with the “Jolly Rogers” of VFA-103. While a “Vic,” he made a deployment aboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) participating in Partnership of the Americas followed by two deployments aboard the USS DWIGHT D. EISEN- HOWER (CVN-69) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. During this tour, CDR Sheater was selected to attend the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) to complete the Strike Fighter Training Instructor (SFTI) syllabus. After graduating from the prestigious Navy Fighter Weapons School in 2011, he reported to STRIKE aboard NAS Fallon for a tour as a Large Force Strike instructor for Air Wing Fallon detachments where he earned his Strike Lead qualification. Upon completion of his tour at STRIKE, CDR Sheater reported aboard the VFA-41 “Black Aces” as the training officer from September of 2014 until January of 2016 where he earned his Rescue Mission Commander qualification. He continued fleet service by executing his Department Head tour aboard the VFA-94 “Mighty Shrikes” from February 2016 through July of 2018 where he served as the Administration Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer. While a “Mighty Shrike,” CDR Sheater participated in one deploy- ment aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Following his Department Head tour, CDR Sheater served as the Air Wing Training Officer for STRIKE at the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC) in Fallon, NV. While on staff, he became the Large Force Strike (LFS) Mission Planning Subject Matter Expert (SME) and the Acceptable Level of Risk (ALR) SME. CDR Sheater served as the Executive Officer of the VFA-122 “Flying Eagles” from August 20221 to August 2022 before reporting to the “Fighting Redcocks” of VFA-22 as the Executive Officer from August 2022 until December 2023. CDR Sheater has accumulated over 2,800 flight hours in nine aircraft, over 70 combat missions, and survived over 550 carrier arrested landings. CDR Sheater is married to Mrs. Meaghan Sheater with whom he shares three children; Kyleigh, Mackenzie, and Jack.
