Captain Micheal "SNAP" Langbehn

Commander, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11

22 October 2020 Captain Langbehn is a native of Lemoore, California.  He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned an Ensign in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

After flight training, he was designated a Naval Aviator from VT-21 at NAS Kingsville, Texas in 1999.  Upon completion of  F/A-18 training with the Rough Raiders of VFA-125, he reported to VFA-25, the Fist of the Fleet, at NAS Lemoore, CA.  During his tour, he completed two deployments onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72).  Captain Langbehn flew missions in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH (OSW), ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF), and IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF).  He served as Schedules Officer, AV/ARM Division Officer, Weapons and Tactics Officer, and Landing Signals Officer.   In 2003, Captain Langbehn reported to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at NAS Fallon, NV as a staff member of the Strike Department (N5).  He completed the TOPGUN Adversary course and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) course.  While at Strike, he served as Strike Fighter Instructor, F-16 Instructor, and JDAM/JSOW subject matter expert.  In 2006, Captain Langbehn reported as Strike Operations Officer for Carrier Air Wing ONE (CVW-1) at NAS Oceana, VA.  During this tour he deployed onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and flew combat missions in support of OEF and OIF, including land-based missions from Al Asad Airfield, Iraq.
           
In 2007, Captain Langbehn reported to the Dambusters of VFA-195 at NAF Atsugi, Japan as a Department Head.  He served as Safety, Admin, Maintenance, and Operations Officer.  He completed multiple WESTPAC deployments onboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).  In 2010 Captain Langbehn attended the Naval War College at NS Newport, RI, graduating in 2011 with a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.  He then reported to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center Norfolk, VA for a Global War on Terror Support Assignment (GSA).  He deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan to support OEF combat operations as the Deputy Electronic Warfare Officer for Regional Command East.
           
Captain Langbehn reported to The Mighty Shrikes of VFA-94 as the Executive Officer in 2013 and assumed command in May of 2014.  The squadron conducted counter-ISIL missions in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE (OIR) while embarked onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) from August 2014 to June 2015.  Following command, Captain Langbehn reported to Office of the Secretary of Defense, Cost Analysis and Program Evaluation (OSD CAPE) as a TACAIR analyst in the Pentagon.  He concurrently graduated from the Joint and Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA.  In October 2017 he was selected for Aviaiton Major Command and in December 2018 he reported as Deputy Commander of Carrier Air Wing 11.
           
Captain Langbehn’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Individual Air Medal (with combat V), Strike/Flight Air Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medals (with combat V), and Navy Achievement Medal.  He has accumulated over 3,100 flight hours in the T-34, T-45, F/A-18A-F, and F-16, and has made 895 carrier arrested landings
