Command Master Chief Kraig Vavruska

Command Master Chief, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9

22 October 2020 Command Master Chief Vavruska a native of Butte, Montana and grew up in Spearfish, South Dakota.  He graduated from Spearfish High School in the summer of 1998 and entered the Navy through the Delayed Entry Program.   He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois in August, 1998 and reported to and completed Naval Aircrew Candidate School and AW “A” school in Pensacola, FL.   

Master Chief Vavruska’s source rating was a Naval Air crewman Operator.  His career duty assignments include: USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) Undersea Warfare Module; VP-8 as Sensor Station 3 Operator; VP-30 FRS Instructor and NATOPS evaluator; BUPERS Sea Duty Component Dallas as Operations LCPO; VP-30 FRS instructor and P-8A LCPO; VP-26 as the Operations LCPO.  He was selected to Command Senior Chief in February 2016 and Command Master Chief in August 2017.  He served for the VFA-86 “Sidewinders” from October 2017 to March 2020 and assumed his current duties as the Carrier Air Wing NINE, Command Master Chief in April 2020.

He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 182 Blue) and CMC/COB (Class 177).

His personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards, 1 with valor), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Good Conduct medal (7 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.  He is qualified as a Naval Aircrewman, Master Training Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.
