Senior Chief Electrician's Mate Karen M. Seawright

23 October 2020 Electrician’s Mate Senior Chief Petty Officer Karen M. Seawright nee Johnson is a native of Guyana, South America.  She immigrated to the United States of America in August 1989, resided in Far Rockaway Queens, New York and enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1990.  Following completion of Basic and Engineering Training in Orlando Florida, she reported to the USS Canopus (AS-34) Naval SUBASE Kings Bay, Georgia serving a 2 year tour onboard as a Fireman Apprentice and later as an Interior Communications Electrician.

In October 1992, she ended her active duty enlistment contract and went to the United States Reserves where she served 6 years as a Navy Reservist at Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Jacksonville Florida, NOSC Earle New Jersey and NOSC Little Creek, Norfolk Virginia.  In 1998, she returned to active duty as Full Time Support and served as Leading Petty Officer Training Department EODMU TEN Fort Story, Virginia.  Other duty stations and assignments include; Leading Petty Officer, Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) Norfolk, Virginia; Leading Chief Petty Officer, Manpower and Reserve Pay Department NOSC Pearl Harbor Hawaii, Leading Chief Petty Officer, Mobilization Department Commander Naval Reserve Forces Command  New Orleans, Louisiana, Leading Chief Petty Officer, Commander Naval Reserve Forces Command Norfolk, Virginia, First Sergeant USCENTCOM AOR (Individual Augmentee) Camp AL Udeid QATAR in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), 3M Coordinator EODESU TWO  and  EODGRU TWO, Norfolk Virginia, Senior Enlisted Leader, NOSC Orlando Florida, Senior Enlisted Leader, NOSC Bangor Maine, Division Leading Chief Petty Officer Electrical and Engineering Department, USS Lake Champlain (CG-57) San Diego, California and Senior Enlisted Leader Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) San Diego, California.

Senior Chief Seawright is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy Class 220, Norfolk State University, Virginia where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science (Pre-Law) and Troy State University, Alabama where she earned her Masters of Science Degree in Leadership and Management.  Her NEC’s include Instructor Duty (9502), Individual Augmentation (90NI) and 3M Coordinator (9517).  Formerly a Chief Interior Communications Electrician (ICC), she was laterally converted to Chief Electrician’s Mate (EMC) in August 2011.
Her decorations include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Meritorious Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (3 awards), the Battle “E” and several other awards.  She is designated Surface Warfare (SW) and Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare (EXW) Specialist.
