Captain Joshua F. "Spoiler" Wenker

Executive Officer, USS Nimitz (CVN 68)

23 October 2020 Captain Wenker, a native of Tinley Park, Illinois, graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in History from the United States Naval Academy in 1999 and with highest distinction from the United States Naval War College in 2012.  He earned his wings of gold in 2001 while assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 120 for initial training as an E-2C Hawkeye Replacement Naval Flight Officer (NFO).
CAPT Wenker served as Commanding Officer of VAW-116 “Sun Kings” from April 2017 until June 2018.  In addition, his career as a Naval Aviator includes assignments as Safety Officer with VAW-117, Safety and Maintenance Officer with VAW-113, and Executive Officer of VAW-116.  During those tours, he deployed aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), flying missions in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, INHERENT RESOLVE and TOMODACHI.
Ashore, he was assigned to VAW-120 as an Instructor NFO and Assistant Operations Officer; Flag Aide to Commander USSIXTH Fleet and Joint Command Lisbon; USNORTHCOM, N55, as the Lead Planner for Homeland Defense; Navy Nuclear Power School; and Nuclear Power Training Unit. 
CAPT Wenker has accumulated more than 2,200 flight hours, 400 carrier arrested landings, and 80 combat sorties.  His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Strike Flight Air Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), and various other unit citations and campaign ribbons.
