Commanding Officer, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 130

25 October 2020 A native of Jacksonville, Florida Commander (CDR) Voss graduated from Florida State University in May 2003. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School at NAS Pensacola, FL in May 2004 and subsequently reported for flight training. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in October 2005 and reported to the VAQ-129 Vikings for initial fleet training as an EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer at NAS Whidbey Island, WA.

CDR Voss began his operational flying in January 2007 with the Yellow Jackets of VAQ 138. He made two deployments aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74), supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. During his tour, he graduated from the Electronic Attack Weapons School and was designated a Prowler Tactics Instructor in December 2009.

CDR Voss reported to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at NAS Fallon, NV in January 2010 as a SEAD Air Wing Instructor. While at NSAWC, he went through a transition to the EA-18G with training stops at NAS Lemoore and NAS Whidbey Island. In January 2011, he was selected to be a plank holder in the establishment of the AEA Weapon School (HAVOC) at NAS Fallon and was part of the initial cadre of HAVOC instructors.

CDR Voss returned to the fleet as a training officer with the Shadow Hawks of VAQ-141 in September 2013 forward deployed in Atsugi, Japan. While with VAQ-141, he completed four patrols aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) supporting stability and security in the 7th Fleet area of operations.

After finishing up his tour in Japan, CDR Voss reported to the VAQ-142 Gray Wolves as a department head in September 2015 at NAS Whidbey Island. He made one deployment aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) supporting Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and RESOLUTE SUPPORT serving as the Operations Officer, Maintenance Officer and Administrative Officer.

Following his department head tour, CDR Voss served as a joint plans and action officer with CONR-1AF (AFNORTH) at Tyndall AFB, FL. While at Tyndall, he directly supported the re-write of Homeland Defense Plans and supported command crisis action teams during humanitarian relief efforts.  He selected for squadron command in March 2018 and reported to the VAQ-130 Zappers as Executive Officer in October 2020.

CDR Voss has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours and over 700 carrier arrested landings. He has earned several personal awards and recognitions because of the hardworking sailors he has had the privilege of serving and deploying with. His hobbies include fishing, skiing, and mountain biking in the Pacific North West.
