Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 25

25 October 2020 A native of Healdsburg, California, CDR Rose graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2001, earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics. CDR Rose was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School Program and reported to NAS Whiting Field, FL for flight training in June 2002. He earned his Pilot Wings in December 2003. In January 2004, CDR Rose reported to VFA-125 for initial fleet training in the F/A-18 Hornet.

CDR Rose began his operational flying in October 2004 with VFA-25, the “Fist of the Fleet”. While a “Fisty”, he made two deployments aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. During this tour CDR Rose was selected to attend the TOPGUN course in Fallon, Nevada.

Upon completing the TOPGUN course, CDR Rose returned to Lemoore as an instructor at Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific (SFWSP) where he became the Defensive Counter Measure SME for the west coast. Upon completing his Weapons School tour, CDR Rose reported to VFA-146 as their Training Officer. As a “Blue Diamond” he deployed aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Following his training officer tour, CDR Rose remained in the fleet as a Department Head in VFA-151, the “Vigilantes”. While with the “Vigi’s”, he facilitated the transition from legacy hornets to their new lot 35 F/A-18E Super Hornets.

Following his department head tour, CDR Rose was detailed to NORAD and USNORTHCOM, Peterson Air Force Base where he served as an action officer in the J-5 Directorate. While on the Staff, he directly supported efforts related to the defense of the homeland.

While in Colorado Springs, CDR Rose completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase 1, while simultaneously earning an accredited Masters of Business Administration from the University of Colorado with honors.

CDR Rose selected for operational command in March 2017 and returned to Lemoore later that year. Prior to reporting to VFA-25 as executive officer, and while regaining currency in the F/A-18, CDR Rose served as executive officer at VFA-122 for 2018. In January 2019 he joined the “Fist of the Fleet” just prior to their COMPTUEX and 10-month around the world deployment aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.

CDR Rose has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours with over 500 carrier arrested landings, including over 50 combat missions. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (2 awards), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
