Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 94

25 October 2020 Commander Chris Nicoletti, a native of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, was commissioned in 2002 through the Villanova University NROTC program. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was selected to attend flight training in Pensacola, Florida. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in November 2003 and reported to the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) in the F/A-18F Super Hornet at Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO TWO (VFA-122).

Upon completion of FRS training, he reported to Strike Fighter Squadron TWO (VFA-2) where he completed two Western Pacific deployments onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72). While at VFA-2, he earned the Joint Terminal Attack Controller and Forward Air Controller (Airborne) qualifications. Commander Nicoletti was selected to attend the Naval Strike Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and reported to Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO SIX (VFA-106) as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor. He reported back to sea duty with Carrier Air Wing EIGHT (CVW-8) as the Strike Operations Officer, completing the maiden deployment onboard USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77) and flying combat sorties in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM.

Following this deployment, Commander Nicoletti reported to the Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic as the Flag Aide. He was then selected for Department Head, serving as the Assistant Operations, Administrative, and Operations Officer at Strike Fighter Squadron ELEVEN (VFA-11). Commander Nicoletti completed the Air Interdiction Mission Commander course and was designated an Air Wing Strike Lead. He deployed with VFA-11 onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) flying combat sorties in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. In August 2015 he reported to a joint assignment at the Defense Intelligence Agency - Defense Combating Terrorism Center where he served as a Division Operations Officer. He completed his time in the National Capitol Region as a Service Chief's Fellow at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) where he contributed to numerous breakthrough technologies in development.

Commander Nicoletti is a recipient of the 2015 Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic LCDR Michael Longardt Leadership award. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. Commander Nicoletti has accumulated over 2600 hours and 550 arrested landings.
