Commander Brian Hasse

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 22

26 October 2020 Commander Hasse is a native of Shelby Township, MI.   He attended the University of Southern California and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences.  He was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and reported for initial flight training at NAS Pensacola in May of 2002. 

After earning his wings of gold, CDR Hasse reported to NAS Lemoore, CA and the “Flying Eagles” of VFA-122 for initial qualification in the FA-18F Super Hornet.  Upon successful completion of the FRS, CDR Hasse received orders to the “Black Aces” of VFA-41 at NAS Lemoore and completed three deployments aboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.

CDR Hasse reported to the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 at NAS Oceana, VA in September of 2008 where he served as Instructor Pilot, Training Assessment Officer, Assistant Strike Phase Head, and Strike Phase Head flying the FA-18A-F.  In August of 2011, CDR Hasse was assigned to CVW-1 Staff as the FA-18 Air to Air Officer and deployed aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

CDR Hasse reported to the “Black Lions” of VFA-213 at NAS Oceana in April of 2013 and served as a department head in the Safety, Operations, and Maintenance departments.  During his tour, CDR Hasse deployed aboard the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and the initial phases of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.  VFA-213 earned the Battle “E” and C. Wade McClusky award in 2014.

Following a successful tour with the “Black Lions”, CDR Hasse attended the United States Naval War College in Newport, RI where he earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies.  Following graduation in November 2016, CDR Hasse reported to United States Northern Command in Colorado Springs, CO and served in the NC/J34 Homeland Defense and Protection Division as the Mission Assurance Branch Chief.  CDR Hasse reported to the “Fighting Redcocks” of VFA-22 as Executive Officer in May of 2020.

CDR Hasse has accumulated over 3200 total flight hours and over 800 carrier arrestments during his career.  His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (4 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various service awards and ribbons.
