Commander John Stigi

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 22

26 October 2020 Commander John Stigi is a native of Rockville, MD. After graduating from Duke University and commissioning in 2002 he began flight training at NAS Pensacola, FL. Earning his Wings of Gold in June of 2004, he reported to NAS Lemoore, CA, and the "Flying Eagles" of VFA-122 for initial flight training in the FA-18F Super Hornet. Upon training completion, he received orders to the "Jolly Rogers" of VFA-103, completing a deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

CDR Stigi reported to the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOP GUN) at NAS Fallon, NV, in April of 2008 for the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor course. Upon graduation, CDR Stigi remained on staff as a TOPGUN Instructor, serving as the TOPGUN Training Officer and United States Navy Subject Matter Expert on Laser Guided Weapons and Tactical Crew Coordination.

Following his tour in Fallon, CDR Stigi reported to the "Red Rippers" of VFA-11 in July 2011 as the Training Officer. During this tour, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on the final cruise of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65).

Upon completion of his tour with the "Red Rippers," CDR Stigi reported to Atsugi, Japan, and the "Diamondbacks" of VFA-102 in May 2013, serving as a Department Head in the Administrative, Operations, and Maintenance Departments. During this tour, he deployed three times to the Western Pacific as a member of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73).

Following a successful tour with the "Diamondbacks," CDR Stigi returned to TOPGUN as the Executive Officer in September 2015. During his tour at TOPGUN, he served as an Air Wing Instructor at the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center and as the United States Navy Subject Matter Expert on Fighter Integration. CDR Stigi reported to VFA-22 as Executive Officer in November 2018.

CDR Stigi has accumulated over 3,200 flight hours and 650 carrier arrested landings. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and various other campaign and service ribbons.
