A native of Helena, Montana, Commander Hubley graduated with honors from Seattle University in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and minors in Mathematics and Physics. Designated a naval aviator in August 2005, he received initial F/A-18 training with the “Rough Raiders” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO FIVE at NAS Lemoore, CA.
CDR Hubley reported to his first operational command, the “Dambusters” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE NINE FIVE forward deployed to NAF Atsugi, Japan in July 2006. While attached to the “Dambusters”, he completed multiple patrol cycles aboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63).
Selected to attend the United States Naval Test Pilot School, CDR Hubley was designated a Test Pilot upon graduation in December 2009. He subsequently reported to the “Dust Devils” of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron THREE ONE at NAS China Lake where he served as F/A-18 Super Hornet software and targeting pod Project Officer. While attached to the “Dust Devils”, CDR Hubley earned his Masters of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA.
CDR Hubley returned to the Fleet in May 2012 as Staff Strike Operations Officer for Commander, Task Force SEVEN ZERO in Yokosuka, Japan. He completed two deployments with Carrier Strike Group FIVE, participating in numerous exercises as well as humanitarian efforts in support of OPERATION DAMAYAN.
Serving as the Safety, Maintenance, and Operations Officer, CDR Hubley returned to the “Dambusters” for his Department Head tour, deploying onboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) in the Western Pacific.
CDR Hubley subsequently reported to United States Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB, CA, serving as an Instructor Pilot in the F-16 and the T-38. Selected for operational command, CDR Hubley completed refresher F/A-18 training with Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO TWO, the “Flying Eagles” at NAS Lemoore, CA and reported as Executive Officer to the “Royal Maces” of Strike Fighter Squadron TWO SEVEN forward deployed to Iwakuni, Japan in December 2018.
CDR Hubley has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours in 34 different aircraft and 540 carrier arrested landings.
