Commander Michael "Pellet" Donovan

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27

26 October 2020 Commander Mike Donovan, a native of Wausau, WI, commissioned in 2003 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps after graduating from Marquette University with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.  CDR Donovan was designated a Naval Aviator in January 2006 and has fully qualified in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

CDR Donovan’s operational assignments include Assistant Operations Officer in Strike Fighter Squadron ONE THREE SEVEN (VFA-137), Training Officer in Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ONE FIVE (VFA-115), and Maintenance and Operations Officer in VFA-137.  He has deployed three times to the Indo-Pacific and Arabian Gulf regions in support of Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM.

Ashore, CDR Donovan served as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor in Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific (SFWSP), after graduating from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), and as Chief of Staff in Joint Strike Fighter Wing.  Additionally, CDR Donovan served as Military Aide to the Vice President of the United States.

CDR Donovan reported to VFA-27 as the Executive Officer in August 2020.

CDR Donovan has logged over 2500 flight hours and 400 carrier arrested landings.  He credits his personal, unit, and service awards to the exceptional service members with whom he has proudly served.
