Commander Robert R. Littman

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 146

26 October 2020 Commander Robert Littman is a native of Montclair, New Jersey. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Commander Littman received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in May 2001 and reported to Pensacola, FL for flight training in June 2001. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in November 2003 and subsequently reported to the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 for initial F/A-18 flight training.
 
CDR Littman reported to the “Sunliners” of VFA-81 in 2005 for his initial operational assignment.  While serving as a “Sunliner,” he deployed onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) flying missions during Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. He served as the 1st LT Division Officer, AV/ARM Division Officer, Schedules Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer.  CDR Littman then attended the Naval Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) in Fallon, Nevada from January to March 2008.  He subsequently reported to the Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic (SFWSL) from March 2008 to August 2010 where he served as the Advanced Tactics and Training Procedures (ATTP) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the East Coast.
 
In September 2010 CDR Littman reported to the “Knighthawks” of VFA 136 as the Training Officer and deployed onboard the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) flying missions in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. In June 2012 he reported to the “Ragin’ Bulls” of VFA 37 as a Department Head. While with the “Ragin’ Bulls,” he deployed onboard the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) and flew missions in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. While a “Ragin’ Bull”, he served as the Safety, Administration, Maintenance, and Operations Officer.
 
Following his Department Head tour, CDR Littman reported to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he graduated with distinction earning a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2015. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the United States Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, where he served in the Directorate of Operations, Domestic Operations Division, as an Air and Space Planner. 
 
CDR Littman’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (Three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Two awards), and various service and campaign awards and ribbons. Commander Littman has accumulated over 2,800 flight hours and 650 arrested landings. He is married to the former Lauren Follett of Los Altos, CA. Together they have four beautiful children, Cole, Logan, Jordan and Keira.
