Commander Dustin Peverill

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195

26 October 2020 A native of Stafford, Virginia, Commander Peverill graduated from The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1999, earning a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.  CDR Peverill was commissioned through the Navy Officer Candidate School and reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in April 2002. He earned his Wings of Gold in September 2004.  In August 2005, CDR Peverill reported to the VFA-106 “Gladiators” for initial fleet training in the FA-18C.

CDR Peverill began his operational flying in August 2005 with the “Wildcats” of VFA-131.  While a Wildcat, he made a deployment aboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  During this tour CDR Peverill was named the VFA-131 Pilot of the year for 2007, and earned the CVW-7 TOP NUGGET award for the 2006-2007 deployment.

CDR Peverill reported to NAS Fallon, Nevada in June 2008 to attend the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School.  Upon graduation in September 2008, CDR Peverill remained on staff as a TOPGUN Instructor until September 2011.  During this tour he was the Air-to-Ground Mission Planning subject matter expert and the Stand-Off Weapons subject matter expert.

CDR Peverill returned to the fleet in September 2011 as the Training Officer in VFA-37, the “Ragin’ Bulls”.  While with the Bulls, he began the 2013 deployment aboard the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN before reporting to the “Gunslingers” of VFA-105 as a Department Head in October 2013 during that same cruise.  During that deployment, CVW-3 supported Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Following his department head tour, CDR Peverill served as a Detailer in Millington, TN at the Navy Personnel Command.  While on the PERS-43 Staff, he detailed over 1200 members of the FA-18 community as the O-3 and O-4 Assignments Officer.

CDR Peverill has accumulated over 2,400 flight hours in all variants of the FA-18 and 438 carrier arrested landings, including 75 combat missions. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit awards and ribbons.
