Commander Robert Ruby

26 October 2020 CDR Bob Ruby, a native of Horsham, PA, attended The Pennsylvania State University where he was a member of the NROTC Unit.  He graduated and was commissioned in 2002 and earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Management and International Business.  CDR Ruby received his Master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies with a concentration in Corporate Strategic Planning from the Naval War College in 2014 and earned his MBA from Temple University in 2019.
CDR Ruby entered flight training in March 2003 at NAS Pensacola, FL and completed primary and intermediate flight training in VT-10.  Following intermediate, CDR Ruby transferred to the "Greyhawks" of VAW-120 at Naval Station Norfolk where he received his "Wings of Gold" in August 2005.
Upon completion of the FRS, CDR Ruby reported to the "Bear Aces" of VAW-124 in February 2006 where he served as the COMMO, CMS Officer, Personnel Officer, and Avionics Division Officer.  He deployed with the squadron aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2008.
Following his successful sea tour, CDR Ruby returned to VAW-120 to serve as an Instructor NFO.  During his time at the "Greyhawks" CDR Ruby served as the Systems Phase Head, Schedules Officer, and E-2C Model Manager and Unit Evaluator.  CDR Ruby detached VAW-120 and reported to Carrier Air Wing THREE, at NAS Oceana, in July 2011.  During his tour he served as the Assistant Operations Officer, Air Wing Air Defense Officer, and OS Division Officer.  From October 2012 until February 2014 CDR Ruby served as the Flag Aide to Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force.
CDR Ruby reported to the "Sun Kings" of VAW-116 in June 2014 for his Department Head tour.  During this tour he served as the Administration Officer, Safety Officer, and Maintenance Officer.  He deployed with the squadron aboard USS CARL VINSON in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE in 2014.  Upon completion of hs Department Head tour, CDR Ruby reported to U.S. Special Operations Command in Tamps, FL where he served as the Mission Planner for the Commanding General.
CDR Ruby has accumulated over 2000 flight hours and more than 400 arrest landings in the E-2C.  His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (four Strike/Flight awasrds), the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
