Commander Brian Truong

Executive Officer, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 14

27 October 2020 Raised in Portland, Oregon, Commander Brian Truong graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Economics. He is a 2013 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, where he earned an Executive Master of Business Administration. In 2015, he graduated from the U.S. Naval War College with distinction earning a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies with a concentration in Asia-Pacific studies.

Designated a Naval Aviator at NAS Whiting Field in May 2006, he completed initial training in the H-60F/H at Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron TEN in 2007.

His first operational assignment was with the "Dragonslayers" of Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron ELEVEN in Jacksonville, Florida. He deployed on board the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In January 2010, he flew humanitarian assistance missions in Haiti, while on board the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) during Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE. He served as the Assistant Operations and Quality Assurance Officer.

During his first shore tour from 2010 to 2013, he was an FRS Instructor Pilot with the "Merlins" of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE. He served as the Information Security and Quality Assurance Officer.

In 2013, he was hand-selected to serve as the Flag Aide to Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic.

He reported to the "Wildcards of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO THREE as a Department Head in February 2016. He led a helicopter detachment in support of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas in the fall of 2017. On deployment, as the Officer-In-Charge of Detachment THREE, he led a two-helicopter detachment on board USNS MERCY in support of PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP 2018. He served as the Safety, Administration, and Operations Officer.

For one year, following his department head tour, he was a Secretary of the Navy Tours with Industry fellow at LinkedIn, where he served as the Chief of Staff to the Senior Director of Talent Acquisition, and as a Program Manager on the People Analytics Team.

In September 2020, he became the Executive Officer of the "Chargers" of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron FOURTEEN.

Commander Truong has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various service and campaign awards.
