A native of Denver, Colorado, Command Master Chief Ellis enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1999. After completing boot camp at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, he attended Cryptologic Technician Collection “A” School in Pensacola, FL and a follow-on “C” School in Fort Huachuca, AZ.
After completion of “A” School and “C” School, he reported to Naval Security Group Activity Medina where he served as a Signals Analyst. Following his tour at NSGA, he completed Naval Aircrew Candidacy School (NACCS) and Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) School and reported to Navy Information Operations Command Misawa Japan. While in Japan he served as a Cryptologic Direct Support Element Special Signals Operator and Command Primary NATOPS Evaluator aboard EP-3C aircraft.
From Japan, he transferred to Navy Information Operations Detachment Brunswick where he served as a Cryptologic Direct Support Element Special Signals Operator, a P-3C(SP) Fleet NATOPS Evaluator, and Division Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) in support of operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
He then transferred to Navy Information Operations Command Maryland, where he served as the Senior Enlisted Representative for the National Security Agency/Central Security Service’ Office of Signals Analysis. It was during this tour that Master Chief Ellis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Organization Development. After his tour in Maryland, he served aboard USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) as the ship’s Cryptologic Collection Manager and the Plans & Tactics Department LCPO. It was during his tour aboard the MOMSEN that he was selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer and subsequently to the Command Senior Chief program.
After his tour aboard MOMSEN he served as the Command Senior Chief of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron SEVEN.
It was during his tour as a “ROUGHNECK” that he was selected for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer.
In September 2019, Master Chief Ellis reported as the Command Master Chief of the Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron ONE, the “WORLD WATCHERS”.
Master Chief Ellis holds a Master of Science in Project Leadership and Management from Regis University and is qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Naval Aircrew Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist, and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air/Strike Medal (6 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2 awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards); as well as multiple unit and campaign awards.
