Commander Joseph Snyder

Executive Officer, Patrol Squadron (VP) 46

29 October 2020 Commander Joseph Snyder is a native of Breda, Iowa and enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1995.  He trained as an Aviation Electronics Technician, with an initial assignment at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 9, China Lake, CA.

CDR Snyder was selected for the Broaden Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training Program, Newport, RI in 1998.  He graduated from the University of Saint Thomas, Saint Paul, MN with a Bachelor of Arts in Financial Management while completing the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps requirements at the University of Minnesota NROTC Unit.  Commander Snyder earned his commission in May 2003 and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2005.

Following initial P-3C training at NAS Jacksonville, Snyder began his first operational flying assignment with the Red Lancers of Patrol Squadron (VP) 10.  Subsequent operational tours include Operations Administration Officer aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) and Department Head with the Pelicans of Patrol Squadron (VP) 45. 

CDR Snyder’s shore assignments include Flag Lieutenant to Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Group, Norfolk, VA; VP Sea, Shore, and General Aviation Detailer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel (PERS-43), Millington, TN; and two tours at Patrol Squadron (VP) 30 as the Safety Officer and Training Department Head. 
He is most proud of the numerous unit awards that reflect credit on the teams he served with and the skilled professionals he was privileged to serve alongside.  ​ ​​
