Commander Steve “Sparky” Parente

Commanding Officer, Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30

03 November 2020 Commander Steve “Sparky” Parente is a native of Pennsauken, NJ. He received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps from Drexel University in 2004, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Politics.
Following commissioning, CDR Parente conducted flight training at NAS Pensacola, Florida, NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, and NAS Kingsville Texas, earning his Wings of Gold in April of 2007. Subsequently, he reported to the E-2/C-2 Fleet Replacement Squadron, VAW-120, for training and carrier qualification in the C-2 Greyhound.
Following completion of the FRS, CDR Parente reported to the "Providers" of VRC-30 for his first sea tour. Over the next three years, he deployed twice with the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) Carrier Strike Group. During his deployments, he conducted carrier based fleet logistics throughout nine countries spanning 3rd, 5th, and 7th Fleets while participating in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN and Operation NEPTUNE SCISSORS. Additionally, he flew over 30 Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) sorties supporting Operation TOMODACHI in response to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Upon completing his tour with VRC-30, CDR Parente returned to the “Greyhawks” of VAW-120 as a C-2 flight instructor. During his tour, he served as Assistant Operations Officer, facilitating the successful training of over 150 pilots, NFOs and Aircrewmen across the Hawkeye and Greyhound community. Following his tour at VAW-120, CDR reported to the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer in 2014. Onboard CVN-71, CDR Parente led the V-2 division and participated in the successful launch and recovery of over 1,000 aircraft.
In April 2015 CDR Parente reported to Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan to join Carrier Air Wing FIVE and VRC-30's permanently forward-deployed Detachment FIVE, as Officer in Charge. With CAG-5's "Team BADMAN", he led the Far East Providers through three deployments aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), participating in numerous joint and multi-national exercises spanning the entire Pacific theater.
In November 2017 CDR Parente reported to Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee to serve as the Assistant Aviation Officer Community Manager and Program Manager for Aviation Incentive Pay and the Aviation Bonus.
Following his transition to the V-22 Osprey with VMMT-204, CDR Parente reported as Executive Officer to the “Titans” of VRM-30, the Navy’s first V-22 squadron.  He assumed command of the Titans in October of 2020.
Commander Parente has logged over 2,800 flight hours in multiple propeller-driven and tilt-rotor aircraft. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal as well as various personal, unit, campaign, and service awards.
