Commanding Officer, Patrol Squadron (VP) 1

03 November 2020 A native of Ocean City, New Jersey, CDR Jones joined the Navy in 1996. Early in his Naval career, he completed CTM “A” school in Pensacola, FL and served onboard Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Crete supporting NATO operations in the Mediterranean. In July of 1999 he entered the United States Naval Academy and graduated with a B.S. in Economics in May of 2003.
In June 2003, CDR Jones reported to USS BATAAN (LHD-5) serving as In June 2003, CDR Jones reported to USS BATAAN (LHD-5) serving as Gunnery Officer and R Division Officer while qualifying as CIC Watch Officer, Officer of the Deck (Underway) and Surface Warfare Officer (SWO). He completed a 5th Fleet deployment supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as well as humanitarian efforts assisting the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
CDR Jones applied and was accepted to redesignate to Naval Aviation in October of 2005, earning his wings in October of 2007.
CDR Jones' first VP tour was with Patrol Squadron TEN in Brunswick, ME, joining them in March of 2008. While at VP-10, CDR Jones deployed to South West Asia, flying multiple combat sorties supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as well as surging to SOUTHCOM supporting counter-drug operations and PACOM for various Anti-Submarine operations. CDR Jones was designated a TACCO, Mission Commander, Instructor TACCO and Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI).
He joined Task Force 57 in the Kingdom of Bahrain in March 2011, and served as Exercise Officer, working to fuse the efforts of four Task Groups engaged in patrol and reconnaissance activity supporting Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
In May 2012, he joined VP-30 as an FRS Instructor, and served as P-3C Training Director, Administrative Officer, and Weapons and Tactics Department Head at the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School (MPRWS).
In October 2014, CDR Jones joined VP-46 where he served as Operations Officer, Administrative Officer, Tactics Officer, and Turkey Officer-in-Charge. Deployments included a tri-site to Isa Air Base, Kadena, and Turkey supporting Operations RESTORING HOPE and AGATE LANCE.
In June of 2017, he checked onboard the Pentagon on the Joint Staff, J39. He

served as a cyberspace operations action officer as well as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Global Operations (DDGO).

CDR Jones has logged over 1,700 hours in the P-3C Orion as a Navigator, Tactical Coordinator, Mission Commander, and Instructor. He is the recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, as well as various unit, service, and campaign awards. He is currently attending Cornell University as part of their Execute MBA Americas program.
