Commander Allen W. Jacob

Executive Officer, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 37

10 December 2020 Commander Allen “Jed” Jacob is a native of Richmond, Virginia.  He graduated from Virginia Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Mining and Minerals Engineering in 2004 and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.  He completed his flight training in Pensacola, FL in 2005 and was designated a Naval Aviator in January 2007.  CDR Jacob began his Naval career in San Diego, CA.  His initial operational flying tour was completed in the MH-60R with the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) FOUR ONE “Seahawks” as an MH-60R Pilot and Airborne Tactical Officer. 
 
CDR Jacob completed his first operational sea duty tour flying the MH-60R with the “Raptors” of HSM SEVEN ONE from January 2008 to May 2011, where he deployed to SEVENTH Fleet onboard USS PREBLE (DDG 88) and USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74). 
 
In his first shore duty assignment, CDR Jacob served as a MH-60R Instructor Pilot with the “Airwolves” of HSM-40 from May 2011 to January 2014 where he held the position of Commander, Naval Air Force, Atlantic MH-60R NATOPS Evaluator and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University. 
 
CDR Jacob completed a second operational sea duty tour flying the MH-60R with CVW-8 staff from February 2014 to December 2015 where he served as Assistant CVW Operations Officer and deployed to SIXTH and FIFTH Fleets onboard USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77).  In January 2016 he reported to the “BattleCats” of HSM-73 where he served as Detachment Two Officer in Charge, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer while deployed to the THIRD, SEVENTH, and FIFTH Fleets onboard USS HOWARD (DDG 83) and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71).  While at HSM SEVEN THREE he was named Officer of the Year for 2017 and received the 2017 Navy Marine Corps Association Leadership Award from Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific.
 
In his second shore duty assignment, CDR Jacob served as Aviation Programs Analyst for the Director, Programming Division (N80) on the staff of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Integration of Capabilities and Resources (N8) from June 2018 to January 2020.
 
CDR Jacob has accumulated over 2,400 flight hours in the MH-60R aircraft.  His personal military awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations and campaign awards.
