Commander Keith Klosterman

Commanding Officer, Naval Aviation Training Support Group

31 December 2020 CDR Klosterman hails from Chattanooga, TN.  He attended Vanderbilt University with a Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in U.S. History.  Following graduation and commissioning in 2004, he began flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola and was designated as a Naval Aviator in 2006.

CDR Klosterman was assigned to the “Tridents” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron THREE (HS-3) in Jacksonville, FL.  The “Tridents” deployed onboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-72) in 2008 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF).  CDR Klosterman detached from the “Tridents” in 2010 to attend the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor (SWTI) Course at the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center.  Following graduation, he reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School Atlantic (HSCWSL) as a SWTI where he served as a subject matter expert in secure communications and Special Forces support.  During this tour he deployed in 2012 and 2013 as an augment pilot to the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron EIGHT FOUR (HSC-84) “Red Wolves” in support of Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) forces.  In 2014, CDR Klosterman reported to the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO TWO (HSC-22) “Seaknights” as the squadron’s training officer.  In 2016, CDR Klosterman transferred to the “Dragonslayers” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron ELEVEN (HS-11) for duty as an Operational Department Head.  CDR Klosterman served as the squadron Safety Department Head and Training Department Head during a redesignation to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron ELEVEN (HSC-11).  He went on to serve as HSC-11’s Operations Officer during a combat deployment in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE (OIR) on board the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75).  CDR Klosterman reported to the Joint Staff J7 in November of 2018 where he served until November of 2020.  CDR Klosterman is currently proudly serving as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Aviation Training Support Group New River.  

CDR Klosterman has accumulated over 2,800 total flight hours, including over 2,430 in the SH-60F, HH-60H, and MH-60S aircrafts.  His personal decorations include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and several campaign and unit awards.
