A native of Metairie, Louisiana, Lieutenant J. E. Hoss graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Control Systems.

Afloat, Lieutenant Hoss completed his squadron tour with STRIKE FIGHTER SQUADRON ONE THREE SEVEN (VFA 137, the Kestrels) as the Assistant Maintenance Officer and the Material Control Officer. During his tour, he deployed aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Freedom’s Sentinel, Inherent Resolve, and Octave Quartz during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July 2022, Lieutenant Hoss reported to AIMD aboard Pre-Commissioning Unit JOHN F. KENNEDY (CVN 79) where he currently serves as the support equipment division officer, transportation officer, and fall protection program manager.  During his tour, he grew the AIMD officer mess from two officers to its full complement of nine, prepared AIMD for CVN 79’s commissioning, and established the JFK’s fall protection program.

Lieutenant Hoss’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Star) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
