Commander Luke Reid is a native of Germantown, MD.  He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2006 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.  He was winged as a Naval Flight Officer at Randolph AFB in October, 2007.

Upon completion of P-3C FRS training at Patrol Squadron THIRTY (VP-30) in Jacksonville, FL, CDR Reid reported to the “Golden Eagles” of Patrol Squadron NINE (VP-9) in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.  While in VP-9, he qualified as Mission Commander and Instructor Tactical Coordinator deploying to FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleets in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
In September of 2011, CDR Reid returned to the Fleet Replacement Squadron to begin a tour with the “Pro’s Nest” of VP-30 as an Instructor NFO.  He served as an FRS IUT Instructor Tactical Coordinator, IUT Stan, Fleet NATOPS Instructor, ACTC Level 500 Orion Weapons and Tactics Instructor, and as the FIUT Lead at the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School.  During this tour he also completed Joint Professional Military Education phase one and received a Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
In March of 2014, CDR Reid checked onboard the USS BATAAN (LHD-5) to serve as the Force Navigator and Navigation Department Head.  While assigned he completed one FIFTH/SIXTH Fleet deployment with over 25 restricted water transits, 32 underway replenishments at sea, four joint service exercises, and six live strikes against ISIS targets. 
In May of 2015, following his disassociated sea tour, CDR Reid reported to PERS-43, Navy Personnel Command, where he served for two years as the VP Sea Assignments and General Aviation Detailer.
After completion of the FRS P-8A transition syllabus CDR Reid reported to VP-45 as a department head, deploying twice to U.S. SEVENTH Fleet and serving as the Tactics Officer, CTG OPS/LNO to CTF-72, Training Officer, and Operations Officer.
In November, 2019, CDR Reid reported to the Director, Air Warfare (OPNAV N98), where he served as Deputy Multi-Mission Branch Head, Deputy P-8A Requirements Officer, and High Altitude ASW Weapon Capability (HAAWC) Requirements Officer, responsible for requirements definition, programming and budgeting for all Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance appropriations.  During this tour, he earned Requirements Management Level C certification.
Commander Reid reported to VP-40 in April, 2021 as Executive Officer, and assumed command in May, 2022.
His personal awards include the Air Medal First and Second Strike/Flight Award, six Navy Commendation Medals, one Navy Achievement Medal and various unit, service and campaign medals.
