A native of Winona, Ohio, Commander Brye graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Following commissioning, CDR Brye reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in June 2007. In March 2008, he reported to Patrol Squadron THIRTY (VP-30) in Jacksonville, FL for initial fleet training as a P-3C Orion Navigator/Communicator, and earned his Naval Flight Officer “Wings of Gold” in July 2008.
 
CDR Brye began his operational flying in February 2009 with the “Pelicans” of Patrol Squadron FOUR FIVE (VP-45), where he served as Tactical Publications Librarian, Airframes Branch Officer, Readiness Officer, and NFO NATOPS Officer. While a “Pelican”, he qualified as Navigator/Communicator, Tactical Coordinator, Mission Commander, and Instructor Tactical Coordinator, and deployed to the SEVENTH, SIXTH and FOURTH Fleet areas of responsibility (AOR), participating in Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR.
 
In February 2012, Commander Brye joined the “Pro’s Nest” of VP-30 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron instructor NFO. While there, he served as the Instructional Material Library Division Officer, FIUT NFO Instructor, Instructor Under Training Instructor NFO, Fleet Introduction Team Division Officer, and Weapons and Tactics Instructor. In March 2015, he graduated with honors from Liberty University with a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership.
 
CDR Brye’s next assignment was onboard the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) in San Diego, CA, in October 2014 as the Operations Administration Officer where he qualified as Officer of the Deck (Underway). He participated in the first ever three CVN hull swap between USS RONALD REAGAN, USS GEORGE WASHINGTON, and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, and conducted a deployment to FOURTH Fleet.
 
In January 2016, he reported to PERS-43 in Millington, TN, where he served as the Flight Student Placement Officer/Assistant VP/VQ Placement Officer, and VP Shore Assignments Officer.
 
He was selected for Department Head in 2017 and joined the ranks of the “Big Red” of Unmanned Patrol Squadron ONE NINE (VUP-19) where he served as the Safety/NATOPS Officer, Guam Detachment Officer in Charge, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer, and executed a deployment to the SEVENTH Fleet AOR. While assigned to VUP-19, CDR Brye was awarded the 2020 Captain Tim Tibbits Leadership Award.
 
In January 2021, following his Department Head tour, CDR Brye joined Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Group/Pacific in NSA Hampton Roads, Virginia where he served as the MQ-4C Training, Transition, Requirements and Integration Officer. He was selected for squadron command in March 2021 and assumed his role as Patrol Squadron NINE Executive Officer on 19 May 2022. He assumed command of Patrol Squadron NINE on June 5th 2023.
