Command Master Chief Millard Gene Charles Jr. is a native to Texas raised in the Houston and San Antonio areas.  He enlisted in the United States Navy July of 1999 and reported to Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois that same month.  He successfully completed AO “A” school in December of 1999 in Pensacola, Florida.  In February of 2021, he was selected for Command Senior Chief (CMDCS) and filled the “gapped” billet of Command Senior Enlisted Leader, at HELSEACOMBATRON TWELVE (HSC-12) from February 2021 to September 2021.
 
His Sea duty assignments include:  USS Kittyhawk (CV-63) Yokosuka, Japan; USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) Everett, Washington; USS George Washington (CVN-73) Yokosuka, Japan; USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) Yokosuka, Japan; and HELSEACOMBATRON TWELVE (HSC-12) Atsugi, Japan; Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO TWO (VFA-102) Iwakuni, Japan.
 
His subsequent shore duties include NAF Misawa/NMC Misawa in Aomori, Japan and Transient Personnel Unit Puget Sound in Silverdale, Washington.
 
In July 2024, he started serving as the Command Master Chief of VFA-102 Diamondbacks.  CMDCM Charles graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 240 (Orange) in April 2021 and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat (CMC/COB) course (Class 22020) in December 2021.  His NEC’s include 8SEA and 8CMC.
 
Command Master Chief Charles is qualified to wear the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) insignias.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Achievement Award (three awards), Good Conduct Medal (six awards), and various other Unit and campaign awards.
 
CMDCM Charles is married to Midori Charles (22 years) and has three children; Christian (19 yrs. old), Noah (17 yrs. Old), and Adam (11 yrs. old).
