After commissioning, he completed initial aviation training and was designated a Naval Aviator in October of 2011. After earning his “Wings of Gold”, he reported to the “Gladiators” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 for initial FA-18E/F training at NAS Oceana, Virginia. In January of 2014, CDR Aldrich joined the “Pukin Dogs” of VFA-143 where he completed a deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. After returning home, CDR Aldrich joined VFA-106 as an instructor pilot in January of 2017, where he taught students how to fly the FA-18C Hornet and FA-18E/F Super Hornet. After selecting for department head, CDR Aldrich joined the “Checkmates” of VFA-211, deploying twice in support of Operations Freedom’s Sentinel as well as NATO support missions. While at VFA-106 and VFA-211, CDR Aldrich earned an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Following his tour at VFA-211, he was selected to join the Master Aviation Plan and develop CNAF’s 10-year strategic aviation plan. CDR Aldrich has over 2,400 flight hours and 500 arrested landings. His personal awards and decorations include the CSFWL Instructor Pilot of the Year award, the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various personal, unit, and service awards.
