Command Master Chief Eric Baker enlisted in the Navy in September 1997. Following basic training, he completed Advanced Electronics Technical Core and Electronics Technician "A" School in Great Lakes, Illinois, and Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Electronic Surveillance Measures Maintenance "C' School in Groton, Connecticut. He later earned an Associate of Arts in Electronics Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and Chief of the Boat/Command Master Chief Course. He is designated a specialist in aviation and submarine warfare.

Baker's sea duty assignments include USS Salt Lake City (SSN 716) homeported in San Diego, completing deployments to the Western Pacific and Middle East, and tours aboard USS Helena (SSN 725) in San Diego and USS Greeneville (SSN 772) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he served as navigation and operations department enlisted advisor and communications division chief. During these assignments, he completed deployments to U.S. Southern Command and U.S. 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. GREENEVILLE earned two Submarine Squadron ONE Communications "C" Awards. During his tour as Chief of the Boat on USS Key West (SSN 722), based on Guam, KEY WEST completed three Guam Mission Cycles and earned the Battle Efficiency "E," two Navigation "N," two supply "E," Weapons "W," Communications "C," Personnel "P," and Retention Excellence Awards.

Ashore, he served as Maintenance Leading Petty Officer at Naval Computer and Telecommunication Station San Diego and as the Communications Assistant at Submarine Squadron SEVEN in Pearl Harbor. He also served as the Command Master Chief of Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific/Training Support Department Hawaii and Submarine Squadron FIFTEEN on Guam.

In June 2023, he reported to his current assignment as Command Master Chief of VAQ-142. He is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (x3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x4), and various other service medals and ribbons.
