Gibbons hails from New Castle, Delaware and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2006 with a degree in Political Science. Winged as a Naval Aviator in Corpus Christi, Texas in 2008, CDR Gibbons completed P-3 flight training at Patrol Squadron THIRTY in Jacksonville, FL. His first operational assignment was to Patrol Squadron Ten (VP-10) stationed at NAS Brunswick, Maine. There CDR Gibbons earned designations as Patrol Plane Commander, Mission Commander, Instructor Pilot, and Squadron Blue Card Pilot. He completed two separate deployments to the FIFTH FLEET area of responsibility. In March 2012, he reported to FLEET READINESS PATROL SQUADRON THIRTY, (VP-30) in Jacksonville, Florida as a Fleet Readiness Instructor Pilot. While assigned to VP-30 he served as Introductory Division officer, Aviation Mechanical Division Officer, and a Fleet NATOPS Officer. In 2015, CDR Gibbons was ordered to serve as SHOOTER aboard the USS Harry S Truman in Norfolk, Virginia. While aboard, he served as Air Department Division officer, V1 and V2, and held the position as the TOPCAT for his final year on board. He participated in two work-up cycles and one full deployment to the SIXTH and FIFTH FLEET areas of responsibility. LCDR Gibbons selected for Department Head and was ordered to Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron ONE (VQ-1) in 2017. At VQ-1, he served as Officer in Command in the THIRD, SIXTH, and SEVENTH FLEET areas of responsibility, and held the positions of Safety/NATOPS, Training, Administration, and Operations Department Head. Upon completion of his Department Head tour in May of 2020, CDR Gibbons executed orders to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, serving as the lead policy analyst for Asia and the People’s Republic of China. CDR Gibbons’ awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (3 Awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (3 Awards), the Navy Achievement Medal, and various service awards and ribbons.
